Scholarships

In addition to providing numerous scholarships to current LSU Engineering students each year, the College of Engineering also has several competitive scholarships available to qualified first-year engineering students.

The awards detailed below share a common application but are selective according to their own eligibility requirements. Please read through the information below and make sure to submit your application by the deadline on January 8, 2017 at 11:59pm CST.

Application instructions:

  • To access, complete, and submit the online application.
  • Upload a 1,000 word essay in response to the following prompt:
    • The LSU College of Engineering strives to prepare LSU Engineers who are hands-on problem solvers, possess a strong work ethic, thrive on teams, display an entrepreneurial spirit, and are engaged with community and society. Describe the ways in which you have demonstrated these characteristics in the past and/or plan to develop them during your time at the LSU College of Engineering.

LSU Engineering Traditions Scholarship

The LSU Engineering Traditions Scholarship was created to honor the legacy of our alumni by “paying it forward” to inspire tomorrow’s engineering leaders. This competitive scholarship application is open to entering freshmen who are committed to pursuing a degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or Computer Science. Those selected will receive a $2,500 scholarship per year for up to four years, totaling $10,000 throughout a recipient’s college career.

*Eligibility Requirements:

  • Admitted LSU Freshman entering in Fall 2017
  • An official ACT composite score of 32 or higher (or equivalent composite SAT score)
  • An official high school GPA of 3.5 or higher
  • Committed Engineering, Computer Science, or Construction Management major

*Although any student who meets the above requirements will be considered for the award, priority will be given to the biological or legally adopted children or grandchildren of LSU Engineering, Construction Management or Computer Science graduates. Note: alumni/legacy connections to other colleges/departments at LSU will not be given priority.

 

The Ronald E. and Cecilia M. Rinard Scholarship

The Ronald and Cecilia Rinard Scholarship is highly selective and is awarded annually to a small group of students committed to majoring in either Petroleum Engineering or Environmental Engineering. This award is valued at $12,000 annually for up to four years, totaling up to $48,000 throughout a recipient’s college career.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Admitted LSU Freshman entering in Fall 2017
  • An official ACT composite score of 28 or higher (or equivalent composite SAT score)
  • An official high school GPA of 3.5 or higher
  • Committed Petroleum Engineering or Environmental Engineering major

 

The Gene and Betty Van Norman Engineering Scholarship

The Gene and Betty Van Norman Scholarship is made possible by Betty Van Norman’s generous donation to the Northshore Community Foundation. This award will be given to a single student entering LSU in an engineering discipline in fall 2017. Special consideration will be given to female students who have demonstrated financial need (as provided on the FAFSA). The Gene and Betty Van Norman Scholarship provides a $12,500 award per year for up to five years, totaling up to $62,500 throughout a recipient’s college career.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Admitted LSU Freshman entering in Fall 2017
  • An official ACT composite score of 28 or higher (or equivalent composite SAT score)
  • An official high school GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Committed Engineering major (excluding Computer Science and Construction Management)
  • High priority given to female students with demonstrated financial need.
