Tonya Rushing, Administrative Coordinator 3, recently retired after 21 years with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE).

Rushing was first hired by ECE chairman Alan Marshak as an office manager. When she began working, "there were no computers in the building. We worked on data processing machines, and used a lot of white out with the plethora daily changes required for the schedule, room, and book changes," said Rushing. Eventually, computers were brought into the building and she was eager to learn, while working on schedule changes, scheduling graduate students, and entering data for professors, teaching assistants, and instructors.

"Some of my fondest memories are of our ECE get-togethers at professors' homes, having crawfish boils, and going out to restaurants," said Rushing. One of her favorite get-togethers was a visit to Dr. Pratul Ajmera's home where everyone shared their native foods. Countries such as Poland, Chile, China, Taiwan, Greece, Iran, India, and Korea were represented.

Rushing plans include getting married in March 2010, and retirement leisure. "I plan to do some traveling, visit two of my children in Texas, work with my plants, sleep late, and do whatever I want," said Rushing.
