LSU mechanical engineering alumnus Sid Fuchs, President and CEO of OAO Technology Solutions, Inc., (OAOT), has been named to the Defense Science Board (DSB) supporting defense intelligence studies and initiatives.

The DSB reports directly to the U.S. Secretary of Defense through the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology and Logistics. The board has served the United States for over 50 years by providing innovative recommendations and solutions to a myriad of strategic, technical and operational challenges that ensure the success of U.S. military and national security endeavors.

Fuchs explained the importance of his educational background, “My LSU education, specifically my MS in Mechanical Engineering, gave me critical thinking and problem solving skills which I applied to a variety of roles and situations throughout my career. Combined with a genuine intellectual curiosity, these skills have served me well and in my opinion provided me with a "license to learn" and an ability to expand my capacity for learning and strategic thinking.”

He added “Today I continue to participate in the education process as a member of the Industrial Advisory Board for the LSU Department of Mechanical Engineering as well as a member of the Board of Visitors for the National Defense University in Washington, DC.”

The DSB is composed of members who are selected on the basis of their preeminence in the fields of science and technology and its application to military planning, operations, research, engineering, acquisition, and other matters of special interest to the U.S. Department of Defense.

"This appointment recognizes Sid's outstanding credentials, expertise and contributions in addressing complex defense intelligence challenges," said John F. Lehman, Chairman of the Board of OAOT and Chairman and Founding Partner of J.F. Lehman & Company. "He provides a global perspective that is founded on more than two decades of business, operations, and technical leadership and experience that spans both commercial and federal government sectors."

"I am very proud to serve our Nation as a member of the Defense Science Board," stated Fuchs. "This appointment affords me the opportunity to be a part of an outstanding team that is dedicated to strengthening our country's defense and intelligence capabilities that are critical to our future."

Fuchs has also served on the National Defense University (NDU) Board of Visitors since 2002 when he was nominated by the White House and appointed by Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld. In 2003 he was named an NDU Distinguished Visiting Fellow.
