The College of Engineering is pleased to announce that it has been granted four Flagship Graduate Assistantships for the 2008-2009 academic year. One assistantship each will be awarded for the Mechanical Engineering (ME), Chemical Engineering (ChE), Civil & Environmental Engineering (CEE), and Electrical & Computer Engineering (ECE) departments.

Stacia L. Haynie, Interim Dean of the Graduate School and J. W. Annison, Jr. Family Alumni Professor, offered "Congratulations on this award. With more than 60 proposals and requests for over 180 assistantships, the decisions were very difficult."

The assistantships will be funded with stipend amounts of $15,000 for ME, $21,200 for ChE, $15,000 for CEE, and $12,600 for ECE. However, each department may choose to add a supplement to the stipend amount to enhance the award.

Awarded Flagship Assistantships will be announced April 15, 2008, by each student’s coordinating graduate school. Assistantships are awarded to full-time incoming doctoral students, for a total of four years, if the student maintains satisfactory progress toward earning his/her degree. This includes maintaining a 3.0 cumulative and semester GPA, taking and passing exams on schedule, and working on their dissertation in a manner meeting the approval of the major professor.
