U.S News & World Report Magazine recently released its 2008 report for America’s Best Graduate Schools, recognizing Louisiana State University’s College of Engineering and several of its departments among our nation’s best.  Overall, the College maintained its 2007 rank of 89th out of the 191 engineering graduate schools meriting placement on the prestigious list.

Several COE departments received a statistically significant number of votes from engineering peers to be assessed in the “Specialties” category.  The Gordon A. and Mary Cain Department of Chemical Engineering placed 59th out of 123 chemical engineering programs.  The Electrical and Computer Engineering Department ranked 96th out of 167 electrical and computer engineering programs.  And, Environmental Engineering in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department rated 59th out of 91 environmental engineering programs.

Three COE departments will be included in U.S. News & World Report’s 2008 premium online edition, which includes all programs achieving a score of 2.5 or higher on a 5-point scale from their peers.  Civil Engineering in the Department in Civil and Environmental Engineering placed 60th out of 140 civil engineering programs. The Department of Mechanical Engineering ranked 73rd out of 164 mechanical engineering programs.  The Craft & Hawkins Department of Petroleum Engineering rose from ninth to eighth place out of the 16 petroleum engineering programs.
