On November 8, 2007, ExxonMobil Senior Project Manager, Lloyd Guillory (BS, Civil Engineering), presented the LSU Foundation with a check for departmental gifts in the amount of $79,000.  The amount of ExxonMobil’s gift is based on many factors, including the number of LSU graduates employed by ExxonMobil and ExxonMobil’s recruiting success at LSU over the past five years. ExxonMobil awards the grants based on schools that offer degrees in subjects from which it recruits employees.

The funds were distributed between the following departments: chemical, mechanical, petroleum, electrical, civil, and minority engineering; geology and geophysics; accounting, business administration, computer science, ISDS computer science, and career services. These academic departments will use the unrestricted gifts for educational purposes such as scholarships, field trips, visiting speakers, equipment purchases, student and faculty travel to professional meetings, and other academic projects.

“Supporting higher education has always been a strong priority for ExxonMobil and this program enables us to provide funding to colleges and universities who play a pivotal role in preparing students to enter the workforce," said Amy Patton, Global Recruiting Organization, ExxonMobil.

"ExxonMobil is proud to provide this grant to Louisiana State University for supporting academic initiatives that increase the skill level and number of qualified graduates we seek to hire," adds Lloyd Guillory.

The Departmental Grants Program represents only a part of ExxonMobil’s overall support to LSU this year. In May 2007, the ExxonMobil Foundation’s Matching Gift Program presented a check to LSU in the amount of $988,406, which represents ExxonMobil’s 3 to 1 match on funds donated to LSU by ExxonMobil employees and retirees in 2006. This year, LSU is ranked number one among universities nationwide in receiving gifts from this generous corporate matching program.
