The National Science Foundation has chosen Mehmet Tumay, Lin Bing Wang, and Louay Mohammad's proposal to develop a digital method for examining and developing safer, less costly roadways. The three engineering faculty received a $600,000 grant, which they plan to use to develop a computer-based testing and evaluation system for construction materials used to build roads.

The grant was highly competitive, as only 15 were chosen of the 135 proposals. The project is the first of its kind at LSU, and ultimately, techniques developed will be used at the Federal Highway Administration's Turner-Fairbank Research Center.
