Hall of Distinction Class of 1979-1980

Leo M. Odom, LSU B.S. CE, 1927, has distinguished himself as an engineer for more than 50 years with broad and varied contributions to the engineering profession. He is Chairman of the Board and President of Pyburn and Odom, Inc., Consulting Engineers, and Chairman of the Board of Odom Offshore Surveys, Inc.

Pyburn and Odom has specialized design and maintenance of pipeline crossings of major streams, the design of river control structures and docks, and the design of industrial waste and treatment facilities. Mr. Odom has served as consultant in these areas across the nation, India, and in England. Odom Offshore Surveys provides positioning services for offshore pipelines and drilling rigs by means of sophisticated electronic equipment and collects data required for offshore work, such as soundings and location of obstructions. Prior to establishing these corporations, Mr. Odom served the public sector in the Louisiana Department of Highways, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and Louisiana Department of Public Works.

Mr. Odom has received numerous awards and honors from professional engineering organizations, including the Louisiana State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors, the National Council of Sate Boards of Engineering Examiners, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Association of Levee Boards of Louisiana, the American Society of Civil Engineers-Baton Rouge branch, and the Louisiana Engineering Society.
